Where ART Lives
Marie Schinman
Marie Schinman, an illustrator and fine artist, lives in Ocala, Florida. As a child growing up in Detroit, Michigan, Marie always loved art. She recalls how her father, a sheet metal designer, would teach her to draw dogs, cats, and cars on her chalkboard while he configured blueprints on the family ping pong table. It was during those tender years that Marie did her first mixed media painting masterpiece when she painted her dog, Storm the boxer, with a paintbrush and mud. The stage was set, and she was well on her way.
Marie graduated from the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale with a degree in Fashion Illustration.
As an independent artist, Marie illustrated women's designer fashions and accessories used in a multitude of print and advertising campaigns.
In addition to her own paintings and greeting cards, Marie fulfilled commissions for athletic wear and racehorse silks as well as nightclub and restaurant uniform design. She also applied her skills to interior design working with furniture showroom layouts which quickly expanded into the design and production of printed catalogs for both retail and hospitality marketing.
In 2012, Marie’s artistic journey came full circle and back to her beloved mixed media painting. The return to intentionally combining color, design, and texture on various substrates proving as rewarding and exciting as ever.
By painting intuitively her work now covers a wide range of styles in abstract including acrylic, watercolor, charcoal, pastel, and ink.
Today, Marie’s artwork as well as her oversized prints on metal may be found in display homes, showrooms and private collections.
“I paint passionately, I paint for self-expression. I paint for my soul”.
